Competitive power suppliers are investing in new power supply; more efficient, predictable permitting can help get projects built faster and more cost-effectively.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — EPSA President and CEO Todd Snitchler applauded today’s bipartisan Senate agreement on comprehensive permitting reform, an important step toward clearing barriers to the new energy infrastructure America needs. Competitive power suppliers are investing billions of dollars of private capital in new power supply to meet rising electricity demand, and a more efficient and predictable permitting process is essential to getting those resources built faster and more cost-effectively while protecting consumers from unnecessary costs.

Statement From Todd Snitchler, President and CEO, EPSA:

“The competitive power supplier community congratulates the Members of Congress (and their staff) that reached this agreement on comprehensive permitting reform, and we are grateful for their hard work and dogged determination. EPSA looks forward to diving into the legislative details but is encouraged that Congress continues to recognize that the energy industry is at a rare inflection point. Demand for electricity is rising, and the energy infrastructure, including power plants, transmission lines, and natural gas pipelines, required to supply that demand needs a more efficient and predictable path for investment. Comprehensive permitting reform is vital to the energy industry — and our nation — and the perseverance of these Members of Congress deserves our appreciation.”
