Comments and Edits to NAESB Strawman Recommendations for Gas-Electric Harmonization Improvements

By EPSA

Date: July 10, 2023

Venue: North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB)

Proceeding: Gas-Electric Harmonization Forum

Summary: EPSA has submitted suggested edits to nineteen specific recommendations to address and improve gas-electric interdependencies. Most importantly, NAESB must focus recommendations on market-based services or products to support continued market efficiency for energy, capacity, and ancillary services for all electric system resources. The Forum has been convened in part to address conditions that truly test both systems. Within that context, all means should be taken to develop market-based solutions which maintain market integrity and also represent the best methods to signal additional developments or reforms that can address emerging concerns impacting electric reliability. Additionally, the near-term imperative to improve electric-gas coordination is to focus on the needs and capabilities of the two systems to support each other during events in which demand is expected to rise sharply for both electricity and natural gas – likely extreme weather events or critical periods.
