EPSA Urges EPA to Revise Proposed Rule to Maintain Reliability and Reduce Emissions Effectively

By EPSA

Date: August 5, 2023

Venue: Environmental Protection Agency

Docket EPA-HQ-OAR-2023-007

EPSA submitted comments to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) offering feedback from power generation owners on the agency’s May 23, 2023 proposed rules to address generation emissions. As proposed, the rules would negatively impact overall grid reliability by establishing compliance timelines and requirements that are likely to lead to premature retirement or reduction of output from a significant number of thermal power plants. As the electric grid sees its resource mix transitioning, these reliability concerns could become crisis, and thus EPSA urges EPA to reconsider several aspects of its current proposal.
