In October’s episode of Energy Solutions, NERC Senior Vice President and Chief Engineer Mark Lauby discusses with EPSA CEO Todd Snitchler the reasons for NERC’s recent reliability concerns going into the winter months. Lauby emphasizes the importance of maintaining energy reserves, taking a realistic approach to the timing of the energy transition, and other measures to keep the lights on.

“It’s one thing to provide incentives for different types of technologies. But as you drive other technologies out using those incentives, you’ve got to make sure that you do that in such a way that the endpoint is not just – I understand that we want it to be a green endpoint. We also want it to be reliable, secure, and resilient grid of the future.”

Mark Lauby, North American Electric Reliability Corporation
