Competitive power suppliers provide efficient, reliable electricity at the least cost to New Yorkers. They do so by investing in, building, and maintaining operations at their own economic risk. Competitive power suppliers operate all resources and technologies, including natural gas, coal, wind, solar, hydropower, geothermal, nuclear, biomass, and battery storage. They must innovate in order to compete in the market, benefiting customers through efficient, affordable power.

- 10,800 MW: EPSA member companies own and operate more than 10,800 MW of power generation capacity in New York – over one-fourth of the state’s 41,079 MW of capacity.
- 8,894 MW: EPSA member companies own and operate 8,894 MW of low-cost, reliable natural gas in New York.
- 6,700 MW: EPSA members own and operate more than 6,700 MW of renewable generation capacity nationwide.
- 57%: Competitive markets have driven a 57% decline in New York carbon emissions since 2005.
- $3.2 – $4 billion – The 65 million Americans who live in the PJM Interconnection wholesale electricity market, including residents in New York, see an annual savings of $3.2 – $4 billion thanks to competitive markets and proper planning.

A Closer Look: Rise Light & Power’s Ravenswood Generating Station
Owned by LS Power subsidiary Rise Light & Power, the Ravenswood Generating Station is a 2,480-megawatt power plant in Long Island City in Queens, New York. The facility is New York City’s largest power generating facility, and provides more than 20% of the city’s generation capacity.
Since acquiring the Ravenswood Generating Station in 2017, LS Power has invested more than $160 million in modernization and resiliency upgrades and has removed more than 300 MW of fossil fuel-powered peakers from service to make way for new clean energy infrastructure.
