As extreme heat swept across the United States this summer, more than half of the country’s population was under excessive heat warnings or advisories in July. As the summer comes to a close, we look back on reliability challenges faced by the U.S. power system—a reminder that dispatchable generation, including natural gas, is still needed to keep the grid running.
